My struggles with weight began in my late twenties. A few years later when I moved to a new town, I found myself turning to food for comfort and my weight climbed to an all-time high of 200 pounds. My wakeup call came when my 5-year old daughter drew a stick figure of me wearing a giant muumuu. After looking at her picture, I knew it was time to make some healthy changes to feel better about myself. I’d seen a Curves Club in my area and decided to give it a try. Right from the first visit, I loved the camaraderie among the regular members and staff, and felt the 30-minute circuit would work with my schedule. I signed up for a membership on the spot and soon after joined Curves Complete to help me learn healthy eating habits and lose weight***. I didn’t want to overhaul my entire lifestyle. I knew I would have greater success by making small changes that would stick. I started by ordering a side of vegetables instead of fries with my favorite burger and eventually I started craving more fresh food and less junk. I recorded weight loss triumphs in a journal. It helped put setbacks in perspective and served as a reminder of how far I’d come. I became a regular at my Curves Club and relied on the support and encouragement from my coaches and the other club members to stick to my healthy lifestyle. If I was craving sweets and was about to overdo it on dessert, I’d call or text one of them. The quick tips I’d received such as, sprinkle cinnamon on apple slices!’ were more than enough to keep me on track. It was comforting to know that encouragement was always close at hand. I lost 69lbs*** and felt stronger and more confident than I had in a long time. After losing weight, I decided to open my own Curves. It is so rewarding to have the opportunity to bring women together in a supportive environment to improve their fitness, gain strength, manage their weight and build their confidence.

I walked into the Tillsonburg Curves for the first time knowing that I was ready to make a change. I’d been so busy taking care of the needs of my family, that I was a becoming a distant memory of who I was. I was overweight and a couch potato. My excess weight was physically hard on me and I suffered with pain in my knees, which made it difficult to walk and to keep up with my active teenage daughters.

The first time I tried the Curves circuit, I was nervous and worried that I would not be able to do it. I admit it was difficult for me at first and I was tired, but I resolved to keep going. I went to Curves 4 times a week and slowly but surely my endurance, breathing and fitness level kept improving. The more I worked out on the circuit, the more I felt stronger and more powerful than before and capable of achieving anything. The Curves circuit is a great way to not only strengthen your body, but I found it also to be a great stress reliever. The Curves’ coaches make it fun and encourage us to put our best into each workout and to challenge ourselves. Even today as a seasoned member, the coaches make sure that I am using good form to get the most out of the 30 minute circuit. After every workout I feel more empowered. I am so glad that I took this chance for myself.

I learned so much by following the Curves Complete program. Using the tools provided kept me going and wanting to succeed. The meal plans, with the use of exchanges, were the key. They were easy to use. I learned how to eat healthy and live my life. The motivational videos were inspiring. Every week I was always eager to get to the next one. My favorite part was to review one and then go for a walk afterwards and focus on what was said. It became a special time for self-awareness.

Joining Curves has made a huge difference in my life. I love going there and working out with other members and the coaches. At every visit I am inspired and encouraged. I have rediscovered myself and I like who’ve I have found! I lost 48lbs. and 50.5 inches.*** I’ve gone from a size 12 to an astounding size 4 and can now share clothes with my daughters.*** One of my daughters has also joined Curves so we get to work out together too. Just to prove to myself how far I have come, I went back to my high school track to run a mile. Here I am in my forties and in the best shape of my life. I am so proud of myself for what I have achieved. I would tell anyone wanting to join a gym that Curves is the way to go, as it can work in a busy lifestyle that includes a full time job and a family with kids.

“I went to my doctor’s office looking for a “magic energy bullet”, but I found that “magic bullet” at Curves. #CurvesStrong

My issues with weight started after I had my children. Like many other moms, I found myself taking care of the needs of my family first and mine always second. I love to eat and that combined with little or no physical activity, caused the weight to pile on and my energy level to be at an all- time low. I actually made an appointment with my doctor to see if he could prescribe a “magic bullet” to boost my energy, only to be told that I needed to lose weight and be more active. I was concerned about my health as I have a family history of high blood pressure and high cholesterol and was already taking medication for these problems. I knew that it was time to make some changes and make my health and well-being a priority.

I heard about Curves from my sister-in-law who told me that she enjoyed going and was having good results. I first joined Curves Fitness to boost my activity and then added Curves Complete to lose weight. Each 30 minute session of circuit training went by fast as the Curves coach encouraged the class to challenge ourselves, and kept us in good form. I loved the fact that the level of exercise can be personalized as you control the intensity and I could increases it as my strength and endurance improved. The circuit training has not only helped me with my weight loss but I was becoming more toned and fit and started to see some muscle definition.** I also began meeting once a week with my Curves Complete Coach and learned to make healthier choices on a daily basis. She helped me to manage my hunger and to eat the right kind of foods during the day to keep me feeling energized throughout the day. I had so many menu options that I enjoyed, that I didn’t feel deprived. I am happy and proud to say while eating healthier, I lost a total of 54 lbs. on Curves Fitness** and Curves Complete***.

Joining Curves was the “magic bullet” I was looking for, and my energy level feels supersized as a result. It is one of the best lifestyle changes I have ever made. My life is better physically and mentally. I am now able to take long walks with my husband and can keep up with his fast pace. I also participate in an annual 5K run. My weight loss has made me feel and look younger which has increased my self- esteem. Best of all, I have been able to get off my medication for blood pressure and cholesterol thanks to my weight loss and improved fitness.

In March 2015, I went for a physical exam and my doctor told me that my blood pressure and cholesterol levels were very high, and my blood sugar levels put me in the pre-diabetic category. She wanted to put me on medication but agreed to give me six months to get things under control through diet and exercise. That scared me very much, and that night I went home and told my husband of 31 years about the changes I needed to make. Although it was heartbreaking to me that we were not on the same page, I realized this journey would be one that I’d need to make alone.I spiraled out of control and hit rock bottom in October 2015 when I went shopping for a pair of jeans and needed a bigger size. I was at my highest weight and now on medication for high blood pressure, cholesterol and acid reflux.

In December, I was told I needed a total hysterectomy. I realized what a long and painful recovery process this would be for me, with my extra weight adding to the list of complications I could face. It was in that moment that I vowed to take my life back. I started my journey by going to Curves and cut back on the unhealthy carbs which included bread, pasta and potatoes. I also stopped eating fried foods and the nightly dish of ice cream. The weight slowly started coming off and I even found myself going for walks only one week after my surgery with my doctor’s permission.

Through my transformation with Curves, I began living a life as a strong, confident woman. My weight loss and strengthening experience gave me the resolve to leave my marriage and turn over a new leaf as an independent, powerful woman. Upon return to my doctor just a few months later, I was down 40 pounds**, my blood pressure and cholesterol levels improved, and I was no longer taking medications, nor considered pre-diabetic.

I owe my life to Curves. Curves helped keep me accountable and challenged me – not only physically, but also emotionally to overcome obstacles in my way. I am proud to be a Curves member and part of the safe and supportive community for women. To date, after 16 months on Curves, I have lost a total of 58 pounds**, and my body fat percentage is down 6%. I still have 17 pounds to go to reach my goal weight, but I know that is not the end of my journey. I am still a work in process, not only physically but emotionally and mentally as well. I would not be where I am today without my faith, family, friends and Curves coaches. Today, I am a strong, independent woman and if my story inspires just one person no matter what struggle they are facing, then that is my true success.

My struggle with weight started at a very young age. At only 13 years old I was already 190 pounds. Every day was a battle with the mirror, filled with negative self-talk. I couldn’t run the mile in physical ed without gasping for breath. I couldn’t do a single pushup and my body fat percentage was in the obese category, which resulted in me failing the annual physical test at school. Family members made seemingly innocent comments about my weight, and classmates bullied me because of my size. I was tired of the bullying and wanted to feel happy and confident so I realized I needed to make a change.

I put an end to eating fattening treats in the cafeteria and opting for grilled chicken salads and wraps instead. I started drinking less soda and increased my water intake, but realized there was more I could do. I spoke to my mom about how I was feeling, and we came up with a plan to find a gym that we could join together. This is how I ended up falling in love with Curves.

What excited me most when I started at Curves was that the workout is only thirty minutes. The equipment is designed specifically for women plus, I felt challenged but not overwhelmed when I started. I found a place that was warm and welcoming.

Though I have some physical issues (a degenerative arthritis in my spine and knee pain), I love that I can push myself at Curves and adjust the machines to my fitness level on a daily basis. I also feel the unwavering support of my Curves Coach, which has inspired me to become a Curves Coach as well.

Curves saved my life when I needed it the most. The supportive environment made me feel comfortable and that I was capable of pushing myself to succeed. I have experienced a significant personal transformation, growing from a self-conscious, overweight, and physically unfit teenager to a confident, fitness-loving college student majoring in nutrition.

I am continually inspired by the women around me. Nothing brings me more happiness than seeing the look on these women’s faces as they see how strong they’ve become thanks to Curves. I know that working out at Curves is something that will be a part of my life forever, and I am so grateful for Curves and my family here for being a part of my journey to becoming my best self.

I spent 18+ years at the same job, working as an executive at a non-profit organization. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and found it hard to function on a daily basis. The stress and exhaustion of my job exacerbated my symptoms, and there were some days where I couldn’t even get out of bed. I have always struggled with my weight, but the combination of sitting at my desk day-in and day-out and my Fibromyalgia led to severe muscle spasms and constant pain. Without even realizing it, my weight crept up to 214 pounds on my 5’2” frame.

When my best friend informed me she was moving half way across the country to open a Curves, I started thinking about how much I needed a change in my lifestyle. I had tried every diet in the book, but after hearing more about Curves and the nutrition and fitness plans they offer, I knew it would be the plan that finally worked for me. I always lost weight on other plans, but never kept it off, because they were missing the three key ingredients for success – meal planning, exercise and one-on-one coaching – or as I refer to it, the “accountability” piece.

I was so excited about embarking on my Curves journey that I begged my friend to let me be a co-owner with her. My husband and I instantly sold our house, gave notice at our jobs, and boarded a flight to the Ozark Foothills in Arkansas, a place we had never been to before, to start our new life.

I am honored to coach women at Curves. I proudly show members my before and after pictures so they know that I’ve been in their shoes, and that if I can do it, so can they. Prior to joining Curves, I thought exercise was a chore. Now I am thrilled to show others how to love exercise and embrace the journey they are on. Being a Curves Coach is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. I feel so privileged to be a part of these women’s lives, helping them overcome obstacles and struggles they may have had for many years.

Three and a half years later, I am down 30 pounds, and have lost 30 inches from my body.*** Most importantly, I am nearly pain-free, off medications, and have tons of energy to face the day. I encourage everyone out there to check out Curves and see how it can change your life.

As a wife and working mother of two beautiful children, to say my life is hectic would be an understatement. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks of life and forget about yourself – and I was a victim of that. I had always been aware of my size, but never really thought much of it – I was too busy focusing on my family. It wasn’t until one day that I bent down to tie my shoes and realized that I couldn’t breathe. My stomach was too big and I couldn’t bend over without gasping for air. This was a wakeup call for me to realize just how far I had let myself go. I knew I had to make a change. Being a size 3XL was limiting my life in so many ways; I didn’t want to spend time with my friends, I didn’t feel good about myself, and I felt negative about everything.

One day I drove past a Curves and turned right into the parking lot. I went inside and instantly made the decision that this would be the beginning of my new, healthier lifestyle. I was greeted by my Curves Coach, Donna, who explained the circuit and all that Curves has to offer. I started following the routine and began to slowly see the weight melt away. Once my friends and family began noticing and making positive comments about my progress, I felt my motivation increasing, making the journey a little easier.

One of the best choices I have made in my life was to take a chance on Curves. I was stuck in a place I didn’t think I was ever going to get out of no matter how hard I tried. I am proud to say that at 40 years old, I am stronger, healthier and wiser than I have ever been. After 3 years at Curves, I have lost over 85 pounds**. One of the best parts of this experience has been to witness how my results and new positive attitude have motivated other women to sign up and commit to make a change. Curves is a place of support and motivation. I love Curves and I’m proud to have it play such a big role in my life. I hope my journey serves as an inspiration to anyone else out there who is facing a similar battle to mine.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been battling my weight. Sticking to an eating and exercise plan was hard, and I spent the majority of my life bouncing from plan to plan. Any time life got tough, I turned to food as an emotional coping mechanism, helping numb any pain or stress I was feeling.

On March 6, 2014, that all changed for me. I was desperate for help, and at the recommendation of my sister-in-law, I walked through the doors of my local Curves. The number on the scale rang in at 266, which hit me like a ton of bricks. How had I let myself go? Why did I wait so long to care about myself? Fortunately, my Coach Caroline was by my side to help get me started. I dove in head-first and got to work. I started seeing results and was so proud of how hard I was working on myself, which resulted in a 27 lb. weight loss*** in my first three months.

I was speeding along my Curves journey when life threw me a curveball. My father was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer, and my stress came back in full-force. The next year and a half resulted in a series of ups and downs for me; I would take a break from Curves, but always came back to let go of my stress. No matter how many breaks I took though, one thing remained constant: my coach’s unwavering support. She sent me a note that said “Take your time, but know I am here and we are waiting for you when you’re ready.”

My father ultimately passed away, and as I dealt with my loss, I fell into the loving, always welcoming arms of my Curves family. After re-committing to my Curves journey, life dealt me another blow with another unexpected family death. This threatened to derail my journey as I began to turn to food again for comfort. But my coach was there with her never-ending support, making a house call with a care package and words of encouragement.

In the wake of those tragedies, I finally came to the realization that I needed Curves just as much as it needed me. I realized just how unhappy I was in my current job, and recognized that something major needed to change. With that, I quit my job of 20 years and joined the team at Curves to become a coach.

Since joining the Curves family as a coach, I’ve never felt such a sense of joy and pride. I’ve found my calling as I help other women reach their goals. I’ve also achieved even more success on and off the scale for myself. My daughter has joined me at Curves and has inspired me to push myself to be an even better mom. My family has become way more active; in fact, we now dub ourselves the “Fit Family.” It’s been 3 years since I started Curves and I have now lost 80 pounds and 50 inches*** from my body, and I can’t wait to continue helping other women reach their goals through Curves.
